Leadership is a word that expresses movement. Perhaps when we think of bosses, we have a stereotype in our heads of someone who sits "bossy" behind a desk all day. But this person doesn't have much to do with leadership.
Because leadership always means moving other people. Is this ability to lead innate or exclusively learned? To make this very clear today and to expose a widespread misconception: Leadership is exclusively innate!
Does that mean that everyone is a leader? Are all the training and years of experience that make someone a good leader then superfluous? No. Because what is usually confused is the act of leading (which everyone can do) and how successful the leadership is in terms of achieving a desired result.
This is not about intention, but solely about effect. Every person has an effect in terms of triggering a movement. For example, when someone joins a group, the constellation always changes. If someone leaves, the same applies. If someone arrives in a very agile manner and creates a wind, we notice this clearly. If someone comes across as very uptight and unpleasant, many people will probably give them a wide berth. Each of us moves, each of us leads. Whether consciously or unconsciously is not the issue here.
And this is exactly what makes the question "am I a leader or not" obsolete! Wherever you come into contact with people, something changes, even if it is "only" through your presence. You can't not lead!
It is a completely different question that we should be aware of: The real, the right question is: Am I achieving the results I wish to achieve through my behavior, my causing of the movement, with the movement I am causing?
But this is not a question of whether you lead. It's a question of how effective your leadership is. This is by no means just a buzzword. After all, there is a world of difference between someone who believes they cannot lead and must first develop their leadership skills, and someone who believes they can already do it but is not achieving the desired results.
What we focus our attention on determines our perception. Always remember: I only perceive what I perceive! Our language also determines our programming and orientation. So the question "how is my leadership" should rather be "how effective is my leadership?"
Life can be so beautiful when we see clearly. Perhaps we will see each other soon to increase clarity and profit together .
ps. My friend Blaine Bartlett, bestselling author of Compassionate Capitalism and Executive Coach for Transformational Leadership for over 30 years, describes leadership like this:
"Leadership is the activity that triggers a coordinated movement of necessary activities in a system that achieve the desired results."
I also express the power that lies in the right perception with the workshop title The Power of Purpose. It is about becoming clearly aware of your own essence, your own center, your own mode of action. This leads to clarity of purpose and extremely improved effectiveness. More information
